 The Jigsaw Killer

Detective Kerry sat behind her desk, her eyes scanning over the case-file of the serial killer now known as Jigsaw.
A name he had gained from the press, due to his taking of a slice of skin from each victim, in the shape of a jigsaw piece.

She felt a twinge of disappointment in her lack of ability to discover a clue to Jigsaw's identity.

But he seemed to be able to cover every possible angle, and so far no-one had survived his 'games'.

The body count was mounting and she had no leads to follow.
Her eyes felt heavy and she remembered that it had been over 27 hours since she had slept.
She rubbed her eyes again and took a deep gulp of luke-warm coffee.
The bitter liquid did little to ease her discomfort and fatigue.

The door opened and Detective's Tapp and Sing entered.
"For Christ sake Kerry you look awful!" Tapp said looking at her.

"Thanks Tapp, nice to see you still have your knack for charming the ladies" Kerry joked and yawned.

Sing seemed more sympathetic "You should go home, get some sleep, if only to clear your mind"

Allison Kerry nodded "Your probably right, I'm no good to anyone like this" she got up and stretched, then grabbed her coat and made to head home.

Sing looked over the file open on the desk.
"You know my Son told me we should call in Wonder Man to help" he smiled at the innocent humor of his child "He loves those movies, I don't have the heart just yet to tell him that it's just an actor playing a part"

"Yeah but he is a meta-human in real life" Tapp remarked "Not that he would be much use"

Kerry chuckled a bit and yawned again "Sometimes I think we could use the help of one of those meta hero types, someone who could fore-see the future would be handy"

Sing smiled "Nothing is ever that easy, you know that"

Kerry headed home, tired and worn out by the long days of investigation and lack of any real findings.

She fell into a heavy sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Across town a woman awoke in a dark room her head felt heavy, she opened he eyes and saw that a strange horrific metal device was strapped to her head.

A T.V next to her flickered to life and the face of a puppet appeared, it's cold red eyes turned to her.

"You've wasted your life away on drugs and sold yourself to feed your habit, now you must learn to clear your mind and focus on saving the life you have so wasted"
"The device fixed to your head is like a reverse bear trap, when the timer runs out it will open and... well let me show you"

The camera turned and showed the head of a store dummy, the device was attached to it in the same way it was to Amanda.
the clock ticked down and ended, the jaws of the device sprang open and ripped the head open at the mouth, until the top half of the head fell back onto the floor.
the device had torn the head in half using the mouth as a guide line.

Amanda squealed but the device held her jaw shut, she could feel the metal bars in her mouth that would bring about her death, panic filled her whole body, she was desperate to be rid of the fatal face attire.

"You see, if you don't remove it your mouth will never close again"
"All you need is the key, and that is just to your right"

Amanda turned and saw a man lying on the ground, seemingly dead.

"The key is in his stomach, all you have to do is get it before the timer runs out, the box next to him has a knife in it, to get to it and him you will have to leave the chair you are in, that will activate the timer, work fast and you can save yourself, hesitate and you will die"
"Of course you could just sit there and refuse to play, but then this place will become you tomb, and you will die slowly of hunger and thirst"
"How much do you want to live Amanda?"
"Do you have the will to survive?"
"Lie or Die, make your choice!"

The T.V went dark and silent.
Amanda looked at the body.
She moved like a woman possessed and ran to it, she felt the wire pull the pin from the timer and heard the awful sound of the ticking begin.

She grabbed the box and pulled the small knife from inside.
She lifted the guy's shirt and saw a painted X on his abdomen.
She lifted the knife and slammed it into his body and began to cut furiously.
She tore into his body and pulled out organs, blood covered everything.
She ripped out his stomach and sliced it open.

The Key, where was it?

The Key she had to find it.

The Key.
The Key.
THE KEY!

Finally she found it and reached round the device to the lock.

The key slid in and she clicked it open.

The relief of throwing the device away was only surpassed when it sprang open before it hit the ground.
She had removed it with only seconds to spare.

She burst into tears, screaming out loud.

Her whole body trembled with a mix of horror and joy.
The horror of her situation and what she had done.
The joy of survival.

She heard the door behind her open.

"Congratulations Amanda" a male voice said.
"You survived, and now you know don't you"
"Now you know what it feel like to really be alive, now you know the price of redemption and survival"
"You can leave whenever you wish, you are free"

He patted her on the shoulder in a comforting manner, and Amanda felt almost grateful that he did, like it was a reward for her passing his test.

"Thank you" she whispered and pushed herself to her feet.
She walked past him, never looking at him, and left the room.
She walked down a corridor, dimly lit by old lights.
She exited the building and walked into the sunlight.

Light had never seemed so bright, the Sun never so warm and comforting.
Air never smelled so sweet, despite the car fumes.
She had never felt so alive.

She walked to the street, blood still covering her clothes.
She walked three blocks before finding a Police car.

One of the officers saw her staggering toward them covered in blood "Holy Shit!" he gasped and ran over to her.

His partner followed.
"Miss what happened? are you alright?"

Amanda looked the officer in the face.
And screamed.
And screamed.
And screamed.

"A survivor!" Detective Tapp jumped from his seat, his eyes wide with shock "You mean someone actually beat one of this sick bastards games!"

Detective Sing grabbed the phone and dialed the number for Detective Kerry.

"Damn right we want to see her! what hospital did they take her to?" he wrote down the name of the hospital and grabbed his coat.

Sing informed Kerry of the development and told her the hospital address as well.

In less than half an hour the three detectives stood looking at Amanda through the window of her room.

"She hasn't spoken since she arrived, she's in shock and understandably considering" the doctor said.

"Thank you doctor, but we need to speak with her, she may be the only person who can identify this 'Jigsaw Killer' guy" Kerry said.

"Well, you can try, but I'm not sure you'll get anything from her" the doctor told them.

The three Detectives entered and Kerry waked over to Amanda.
"Amanda, I'm Detective Allison Kerry, I need your help to catch the man who did this to you" she spoke softly and with comforting warmth in her voice, it was sweet on the ears.

Amanda turned her head and looked at Kerry.

"Can you tell me what he looked like?" Kerry asked.

Amanda shook her head.

"Can you tell me anything about him" Kerry asked.

Amanda nodded.
She opened her mouth and spoke in a trembling voice, like a scarred child.
"He helped me"

Amanda was questioned officially but her answers gave little evidence toward the identity of Jigsaw.

Allison Kerry slumped down in her chair behind her desk.
She had felt like things were getting better from the moment she had heard they had a survivor.

She picked up her mug of coffee and took another deep swig.
"How many have you had?" Tapp asked from the door way.

"What?" Kerry said looking up in confusion.

"Cups of coffee, how many have you had since returning to the office?" Tapp asked again.

"I don't know, 3 or 4 I guess" she waved the conversation aside and turned back to the Jigsaw case.

"Hang on Kerry, you had, what an hours sleep before we called you about Amanda, and now your back on the coffee, you need sleep!" Tapp loomed over her his voice taking on the tone of an order instead of a statement.

Kerry looked up and yawned, he was right.
"Alright, I'll head back home, but you make sure you call me if we get any more news" she said and left for home.

"Get some sleep Kerry" Tapp said patting her on the shoulder.

Amanda sat in her apartment she was still shaking from the memory of what had happened.

The memory of the voice of a man behind her.
His words of congratulations on her survival.
His honesty at setting her free, just like he said he would.

Her mind raced over the whole thing, the feeling of the metal in her mouth, the weight of the device around her neck.

The feeling of cutting through the mans body to get the key.
The warmth of the blood on her hands.
The sensation of relief when she unlocked the device and removed it.
The awful sound of the thing snapping open before it hit the ground.
The overwhelming joy of survival.

The warmth of the blood?

The warmth of the blood!

"Oh God" she gasped as tears rolled from her eyes.

"TAPP!" Detective Sing ran into the office.

"What the hell you shouting for, I might be getting old but I'm not deaf!" Tapp frowned at his younger partner.

"He wasn't dead!" Sing said his eyes wide with shock "The guy Amanda cut open, he wasn't dead!"

"What?" Tapp gasped "How could he have not been dead, Amanda said he made no sound"

"He was drugged, so much so that he was completely paralyzed, he couldn't move or speak" Sing handed over the report.
"He was alive and awake when Amanda cut him open, Jigsaw made her kill a man in order to live"

"That is it, this guy just made number one on my sick freak list" Tapp sat back down behind his desk as he read the report.

"Should we tell Kerry? worse still should we tell Amanda?" Sing asked unsure of what to do in light of the new news.

"We let Kerry sleep, I'll tell her when she gets back" Tapp took a deep breath "But we will have to tell Amanda at some point, but I don't want that done without a psychiatrist present, that girl already needs a therapit, after this she is really going to need one"

It had been two days since Amanda's 'game' and the police were still no closer to discovering the identity of Jigsaw then they had ever been.
Kerry had spent most of the time pouring over the files, and doing all she could to find any sort of clue that would lead her to the killer.

Her phone rang, she grabbed the receiver and answered it quickly "Detective Kerry" she stated.

"Hello detective, I'm Dr Loomis I understand you wanted to talk to me?" the male voice was calm and full of confidence, this was not a guy who was uncertain of what he was doing.

"Yes Dr Loomis, I hope you've had the chance to look at the files I faxed to you, I was hoping you might be able to help me get a lead on this Jigsaw killer" Kerry said.

"I have looked over the files and reports you sent and I admit this is a... tricky case indeed" Loomis took a deep breath " This man is not a madman I can tell you that for certain, he is very clever and is a meticulous planner"

Kerry rubbed her eyes, this was not good news, she had hoped that Jigsaw might be some easily predictable maniac in the eyes of a trained psychologist.

"So have you determined anything good about this guy or is it all bad news for my case?" she groaned.

"Sorry detective, I know this can't be easy for you to hear, trust me I've had my fair share of bad times with similar cases" he sympathized "But I have determined something you might find useful" he said with a hint of a smile in his voice "He works alone, that is certain, he keeps himself very quiet in the daily world, the kind of guy you don't notice on the street unfortunately, he is skilled in mechanics and I would say he is an architect of some sort, he knows where to build his 'games' and how do to so unnoticed, so he doesn't lack funds"

Kerry wrote this all down quickly "Could you fax me your report on the case?"

"Consider it sent detective" Loomis replied.

"Thank you Doctor, you don't know how good it feels to finally have any idea about this guy" Kerry sighed a long pent-up sigh of relief.

"As a matter of fact, I do know, and believe me I understand completely, if you need any more help just call, I'm putting your case on the priority list, this man can't be allowed to run free" Loomis sounded serious "I warn you now detective, if he finds out who you and your team are he might very well target you for a 'game' be careful, if he sees you as a nemesis you will be in danger, I know I don't have to tell you that, it goes with the job, but as a psychiatrist it is my job to warn you"

"I understand doctor and thank you for your concern, if we find any more leads I'll let you know, thank you again" Kerry smiled a bit at the warning, it was the kind she had got a lot from family and friends when she joined the force.

"I'm on your side detective, my skills are at your service" Loomis said then the phone call ended as Kerry bid him goodbye and hung up.

She checked the fax machine and pinned up the report on the board in her office.

Tapp walked in "Anything good?" he asked.

"Jigsaw is a loner, lives and works alone, a faceless guy in a crowd, the one you don't see because he blends in" Kerry listed off the news "He is a planner, works out everything before he begins, where, when and how to build and work his 'game' from start to finish"

"So nothing good then" Tapp said.

"No it is good, he has funds, which means he doesn't steal, so we look for someone spending a lot on the kind of stuff he uses" Kerry smiled.

"What? you want us to keep tabs on everyone in the city spending a lot of money!" Tapp shook his head bewildered "This is L.A everyone spends a lot!"

"But not on engineering equipment, unless they work in the industry, we're looking for a private buyer" her eyes sparkled with new hope.

"Now that might just work" Tapp grinned.

The lead was followed up, and proved quite interesting.
Teams were sent out and found many people buying up large amounts of such equipment, most turned out to be people re-selling the equipment at higher rates to other countries.
But finally one lead turned up an interesting address.

The building was listed as abandoned, yet someone was certainly living inside.

Detectives Sing and Tapp entered, they had called for back-up but had also decided to check the area out.

Tapp found a table full of gruesome gadgets, all horrific in their complexity.
"Dear God! what does this guy dream up?" Tapp gasped in shock at some of the deadly devices.

Sing walked over to a covered table, and pulled back the sheet.
"Tapp check this out" he called to his partner.

Tapp ran over and looked at the newly found surprise.
The table was covered in screens, each showing a different room in some unidentified house.

In one room five people lay seemingly unconscious.

"Shit!" Tapp growled "He's already playing a new game"

The sound of a motor snapped both of them back to the task at hand.

An elevator came up into the room.
A figure dressed in a black and red hooded cloak.

He walked toward the covered table, having not yet seen the detectives.

Tapp jumped out and raised his gun at the figure.
"Don't move a god damn muscle you sick bastard!" he threatened.

The figure stopped and slowly raised his hands in the air.

Sing moved over gun also raised "On your knees, now!"

The man fell to his knees and kept his hands over his head, he made no sound at all.

Tapp moved in closer "You are under arrest you sick freak!" he said with triumph in his voice.

"No I don't think so Detective Tapp" the horse voice rasped.

"What? how do you know my name?" Tapp stopped in his tracks, he didn't dare move, this guy was a seriously tricky one.

"If you arrest me now what will happen to those people on the cameras?" he said.

Sing backed up and looked at the cameras.

Jigsaw flicked his wrist and a blade shot out of the sleeve, it locked into the extended position and he spun on his toes slicing out at Tapp.

The blade cut into Tapp's neck and blood poured out.
Jigsaw ran for the elevator and hit the down button just as Sing fired off a couple of shots at him.

Tapp fell to the floor clutching his neck.
"holy shit, hang in there pal!" Sing knelt next to his partner, he grabbed his radio and called in for help "Officer down! we need a medic, Tapp has been injured, get us a damn medic NOW!" he screamed.

Tapp grabbed his shoulder "Get that mother f... , get him!" Tapp coughed his voice rough from the injury.

Sing ran after Jigsaw, he darted down some stairs and raced along a badly lit corridor.
As he rounded a corner he saw the figure ahead "Freeze or I'll fire!" he warned.

BLAM
BLAM

Sing fired tow shots and was sure one hit.

He ran after his retreating foe.

As he rounded the corner he felt something cold jab into his side.
He looked down to see the cloaked figure rising from a enclave in the wall.
Jigsaw's blade had stabbed him in the side.

Sing dropped his gun as the blade was removed, the pain sent him numb and dizzy.

"You have a choice detective" Jigsaw rasped "Live or Die" he said coldly "Chase me and you will die, but if you let me go and keep pressure on that wound you will live long enough for a paramedic to save you, your life is in your own hands now, just like your partner, Live or Die make your choice!"

With that Jigsaw left, he walked to a door and opened it, he was in no hurry.

Sing watched him exit the door and close it behind him, but not lock it, was this another one of his sick games?

Sing took several deep breaths, his breathing becoming rapid with the pain.
his mind raced over the memories of Jigsaw's victims.
He remembered Tapp upstairs bleeding from a bad but not fatal wound.
He remembered the look on Amanda's face when they had found her.

Anger took the place of reason and Sing raised himself to his feet and followed Jigsaw.

This sick son of a bitch was not getting away from him.

He flung the door open roaring after his quarry.
"You are not getting away from me, you hear me you fu... "
CRACK!

Sing slumped where he stood.
Opening the door had set off Jigsaw's trap.
A large curved blade had swung down from above and slammed into Sing's body, he now hung on the blade.
His ribs broken and his heart sliced in half by the blade, which now stuck out of his back.

Detective Sing had not listened to Jigsaw's warning.
'Chase me and you will die'

Jigsaw had not said he would kill Sing himself, just that he would die if he gave chase, and as always he had not lied.

The medics arrived and Tapp was rushed to hospital.

Kerry and her team identified Sing and watched as the body was taken to the morgue.

"Tapp will live, but I don't think he will forgive himself for sending Sing after Jigsaw" Kerry sighed.

"Who's going to tell his family?" Detective Hoffman asked.

"I'll do it" Kerry said quietly "Get back to the office and see if you can track down who owns this building or who the last owner was"

Hoffman left, and Kerry steeled her self for the unpleasant task ahead of her.
She remembered Sing talking about his son, a tear formed in her eyes.

She walked to her car and began the slow drive to the Sing family home.

The four people awoke in the dusty room.
They had no idea where they were or who the others in the room with them were.
The first guy crawled back across the room and pressed himself against a wall.
"Who are you all? why have you brought me here?" he panicked.

"I don't know or care who you are, but shut up will you!" yelled a larger man, who seemed to be muscle and tattoos and little else, including intelligence and manners.

A woman used a wall to brace herself as she stood up, she looked around and took in the scene.
"Fuck me what did I drink last night?" she groaned.

"Shut it bitch!" the muscled angry guy growled.

"Well thank you for that comment Mr Charisma now lets here from someone who's not an asshole" she snapped back.

The angry guy turned on her threateningly but was stopped by the final person in the room.
"Leave her alone!" the voice was commanding and the words were an order not a request, on some level it struck a cord with the guy and he stopped dead.

The final person was a man, older than any of the others and had an air of someone in charge about him.
Whoever he was he was used to being in charge.

"Now we are all stuck in this place it seems and fighting among ourselves won't help us at all, so lets try and figure out what is going on and get out of here shall we" he stated with complete confidence that his words would make sure everyone did as he told them.

The angry guy looked at him "Do I know you?"

"Possible I guess, but I'm not in the habit of spending time with lowlifes like you" he replied with a steely gaze.

"What did you call me?" the guy said and approached the other man.

Before the guy had a chance to think clearly the older man grabbed the guys arm and twisted it behind him, he slammed the tattooed man into the floor and began to choke the life from him, stopping before the guy passed out from the lack of air.
"I said you were a lowlife, and I suggest you NEVER threaten me again!"

He let the man up and walked over to the cowering guy in the corner.
"Who are you and what do you do for a living?" he asked.

"My name id Andrew, I'm a insurance consultant" he whimpered.

"Great a real crook, that's all we need" the woman laughed.

"A real crook? a very interesting choice of words Miss, why did you choose them I wonder? who are you and what do you do?" he asked her.

"I don't mind saying it, I was a waitress but lost my job when I went to jail for a crime I didn't commit, I'm no angel, I've broken the law and committed crimes, but the one I was sent down for was not mine, I was framed for that one" she said angry by the fact "My name is Caz, well Caroline but I prefer Caz"

"Very well Caz" the man said then turned to the angry guy "You next, who are you and what do you do?"

The guy returned the mans look and didn't like being ordered around, he rubbed his throat and decided to do as he was told for now "Names Theo, and I'm a member of the Red Wolf Gang, Yeah I've been inside, many times, but so what you have to right, I can see it in your eyes, you've been in jail so don't you try and be all high and mighty with me!"

The man smiled "I have no intention of being high and mighty as you put it, and yes I've been in jail, but not for petty theft and knocking off the local drug store, stealing a car or whatever pathetic childish crime you committed Theo I am a professional, I kill because I'm good at it" he said and stared Theo down with ease "My name is Mr Boots, and I suggest you all simply stick to that and not ask any other questions about my identity"

Caz agreed and so did Andrew, Theo nodded after a short pause, this guy was not the kind of person you wanted to make angry.

"So how did we all get here?" Caz asked.

"We were drugged and brought here by someone with a plan for us" Mr Boots said, he remembered being injected by a guy in a pig mask.

That was when Andrew noticed a hole in the bricked up fire place.
"Hay what's that?" he said pointing to it.

Mr Boots kicked out a few more bricks and pulled a tape recorder from the hole.

He pressed play.

"Hello Mr Boots, Andrew Caroline and Theodore"
"I want to play a game"

[Quote]

"The four of you have ruined the lives of so many people, and all for greed and money"
"Here in this house you will be put through a series of tests to see if you deserve to live, to see if you have learned your lessons and can over come your greed and selfishness"
"The building is slowly filling up with a poison gas; this will kill you all unless you get the antidote"
"Four vials of antidote are securely placed around the building, to get them you will have to beat my games"
"Can you do this? What will you sacrifice to live? Can you work together and stay alive?"
"Live or Die, make your choice"

The tape ended and the four looked at each other.
"What the fuck is this about man?" Theo fumed and punched a wall.

"Oh shit, it's him isn't it, it's Jigsaw!" Andrew began to cry.

"Who the fuck is 'Jigsaw', what do you know about this you piece of... “Before Theo could grab Andrew Mr Boots had slammed Theo into the floor again and was standing on his throat.

"Shut up will you" he said calmly and then removed his boot from Theo's neck.

"Now Andrew, you said 'Jigsaw', perhaps you could tell us what you know about him?" Mr Boots asked politely.

Andrew looked at the others "He's a killer, been in the papers a lot lately, he kidnaps people and puts them through sick games, if they win they live if not they die" he blubbed through his tears of fear "We're so screwed" he cried.

Mr Boots went to the door and checked it over, it was locked.
"Look for a key" he said.

Caz checked the hole in the wall where the tape had been found, nothing.

Theo looked around the room but didn't move.

Andrew, despite his tears searched the room frantically; he found nothing, until he sat down and began to cry.
"What's this?" he said and pulled a plastic bag from his pocket.

Mr Boots ran over and took the bag.
Inside was a key and a tape.

Mr Boots checked his own pockets "Check yourselves, see if you've been given anything" he ordered.

No one else found anything.

Mr Boots played the tape.

"I warn you now do not use that key on the door, it won't do you any good"
"If you want the door to open you simply have to ask the right person"
"One of you knows how to open it, but they might be unwilling to prove that"
"You are all linked together by what you do; find the key to that and you will find the way out"
"What will you do?"

The tape ended.

"This is bull-shit man, give me the key!" Theo grabbed the key and went to the door.

He put the key in the lock and turned it.
Mr Boots kicked him out the way as a gunshot sounded.
Theo took a bullet in the shoulder, if Mr Boots hadn't kicked him he would have been shot in the head.
The gun had fired through the spy hole in the door.

"Clever" Mr Boots said looking at the door.

Theo screamed and clutched his shoulder in agony.

"Shut up Theo, you're still alive" Mr Boots glared at him "The tape said not to use the key on the door, you only have yourself to blame"

Mr Boots looked at them all "Now who knows how to open locked doors?" he said "Caz, I get the impression that is your field of expertise"

Caz looked back at him "How did you know?" she asked timidly.

"You said you had broken the law, and I don't see Andrew having the spin to break into someone’s house, and I don't think Theo has the intellect to do something that requires brains, I know I don't so that leaves you, simple " Mr Boots smiled.

"Yeah, I'm a thief, I break into places and steal, yes I can probably pick that lock, but I don't have the tools with me to do so" Caz said leaning against the wall trying to avoid peoples eyes.

"Open it bitch!" Theo growled and was pushed over by Mr Boots's foot as he tried to get up.

"Why are you unwilling to use that skill?" Mr Boots asked.

"What?" Caz looked up.

"The tape said you might be unwilling to prove that you could unlock the door, why is that?"

Caz looked at the floor "The last place I broke into was an old apartment block, the owner caught me and had a heart attack from fright, I'd never seen anyone die before, I haven't picked a lock since" she looked around the room and screamed at the world "AND I HAVEN'T STOLEN ANYTHING SINCE EITHER!"

Andrew stood up and walked over to the others "This apartment building" he asked "Was it on the east side, near some new development sites?"

"Yeah, why?" Caz asked.

"Shit, I know that place, they came to my company to try and keep the place from being bought up and torn down, but we... I refused to help and they lost their homes" he shed more tears.
"The guy who was running the tenants movement to keep the building standing died of a heart attack, they all caved in and were evicted days later" he said.

Caz stared at him "That's why we're here, we put all those people on the street" she looked over at the other two "What did you two do, how are you involved with that?"

Theo got to his feet and looked at them "I ain't saying nothing!" he grunted.
Mr Boots stared him in the eye.
"That's right Theo you are not going to say nothing, which means you are going to talk!"

His words were again an order not a request, and in his pain Theo again gave in to Mr Boots demands.
"Alright I was paid a lot of money to smash the place up, drive the value of the property down, scare the tenants into leaving, that kind of thing, I even set fire to the place once to try and force them out"

Caz glared at him "What I did was an accident, I never meant to hurt anyone, but you tried to kill them!"

"No my dear you chose to break in and steal from that man, his death was an accident but your being there was not" Mr Boots said.

Caz stopped in horror, she was uncertain if he was right or just trying to upset her.

"What about you Mr Boots, what did you do?" she finally said.

"Me?" Mr Boots said "I killed the tenants that refused to leave" he said simply as if it was obvious.

There was a click and the door opened by itself.
"Looks like we had to tell each other our involvement before the door would open" Mr Boots said and walked over to the door and went out.

The corridor outside was as grubby as the room they had been in.
Now the hunt was on for the antidote.
They went around the building looking for the antidotes Jigsaw had said were around.
They found the first in a room with a large metal door.

A tape recorder hung from the door, which was built like a vault.

Mr Boots pressed play.

"Hello everyone, if you move the bed in the room you will find my game ready to play" the voice said.

Theo grabbed the bed and threw it aside, revealing a pit half filled with hypodermic needles.

"Theo this game is yours, you sell drugs on the streets, drugs that have ruined the lives of so many, drugs you sell to children, it is time you learned the pain of your actions"
"Among the needles is the antidote and the key to the door, the door leads outside, but if you don't find it inside thirty seconds the door will lock and the key won't work"
"Can you subject yourself to the pain of your customers and dive into the needles to find the one that can save your life?"
"Make you choice Theo"
"Live or Die"

Theo grabbed Caz and dragged her to the pit.
"What are you doing?" she screamed "NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS! NO NO NO NO!"

Theo went to throw her into the pit, but Boots had other ideas.
Mr Boots kicked Theo in the gut and pulled Caz away from him.
"Your game Theo, time to play" he said and pushed Theo into the pit.

Theo landed in the mass of needles, many stuck in him and he screamed out.
"Find the key Theo" Mr Boots said grinning at Theo's pain.

Theo began his search, but every time he swept some needles aside more stuck into his skin.
Time ticked away, and finally Theo lifted a hypodermic above his head, it was different to the others and it had a key attached to it.
He tried to climb out but Boots snatched the key from his hand and tried it on the door.
But it didn't work; Theo had run out of time.

He scrambled out of the pit and pulled the needles from his skin.

He shot Mr Boots a look of pure venom.
Mr Boots returned the look with one of disappointment "To slow Theo" he said and dropped the key to the floor.

The hypodermic had broken while Theo was trying to get out, the antidote was lost.

"Thank you Mr Boots" Caz said "For stopping him" she said nodding to Theo.

"Anytime my dear" Mr Boots replied.

They continued their search for more antidotes.

They found a room with a safe inside but no combination to open it.

As Mr Boots tried to see if it could be opened in any other way, or if there was a tape player around with another message, Theo checked a different room.

He walked in and saw a box hanging from the roof by chains.
Inside was a hypodermic of antidote.
Two holes on the bottom of the box allowed access to the cure inside.
Theo grinned; he could save himself and leave the others.
He reached inside and growled in pain, the covers over the holes were sharp blades.
His arms began to bleed as he pushed his hand in further.
He reached over and grabbed the hypodermic.
As he lifted it it came apart, the plunger on the needle was glued to the box.
Theo quickly reached in with his other hand to try and save some of the valuable cure.
But it was spilled, lost, gone.

Theo tried to pull his hands free but the blades sliced into his arms.
The covers worked as one-way doors, he could get his hands in but not out.
The more he tried to pull his arms free, the more he cut his arms open.
Theo panicked, he wouldn't call for help, it wasn't his style.
He tried to twist his arms to open the covers, but only succeeds in slicing open his wrists.
As he began to bleed to death he screamed out.

The others ran in and found him.
But the box was already swimming in blood.
With Mr Boots and Andrew holding Theo up, Caz could open the covers with her finger tips and ease Theo's hands out.

But it was too late; he had lost too much blood.
His attitude and pride had cost him his life.
Mr Boots looked at him and shook his head.
"Died as he lived, a total idiot"

With that Mr Boots left.

The three remaining victims continued their search.
Andrew called out to the others "This door is open"

Caz and Mr Boots ran to him and looked down the stairs the door opened to.

Down they went to the boiler room.
A furnace sat in the middle of the room and a tape hung from a pipe.

"Greetings again everyone"
"Inside this furnace are two injections of the antidote, but to get to them one of you must go inside"
"Whoever does can save themselves and one other"
"Can you do that?"
"Can you choose between people, who to save and who to condemn to suffering"
"Make your choice"

Mr Boots opened the furnace door.
It was small.
"Guess it's me going in" Caz said "I'm the only one small enough to get inside"

"Be careful" Andrew said as she crawled inside.

She crawled through the furnace and grabbed the vial that hung half way along the furnace.

"That’s mine" she said and crawled in deeper for the other one.

She reached out and took the life saving syringe off the hook.
As she took the syringe off the hook the chain retracted into the furnace wall and the door behind her closed.
SLAM!

Caz looked back at the door and screamed.
"HELP! GET ME OUT OF HERE!"

Both Andrew and Mr Boots tried to pull the door open but it wouldn't budge.

The furnace began to ignite, flames sprouted up in-front of the door and then began to move toward the far end and Caz.

She screamed out again.

And began to bang on the walls.
"There is a door at this end, hurry! HELP ME!"

The two men ran to the opposite end of the furnace and tried to open the door, it was stuck.

Mr Boots grabbed a rusted bit of metal from the old boiler room and tried to force it open.
He tried his best, he wedged the metal into the door frame and using the metal like a crowbar tried with all his strength to open the door.
He couldn't even budge it.

He tried to smash the glass in the door, and was able to shatter it.
"Hurry climb out!" he shouted.

Andrew fell back against the wall in horror.

Caz was on fire her burning body tried to drag itself from the furnace but died half way out.

Both vials of the antidote had shattered in the flames.

"Damn it!" Mr Boots growled.

Andrew walked over and looked at the dead girl.
"She wouldn't have died if she hadn't gone for the other vial" he said, his voice filled with remorse.

"No, she had to go in to get the one for herself, but we could have got the other one from this end if we had opened the door, but we didn't look at the problem before sending her in" Mr Boots sighed.

Andrew brushed Caz's burnt hair and looked at the back of her neck.
There was a number written in bright blue ink.

The number 15.

He looked at Mr Boots and spotted a number on his neck.

Number 8.

"We should find the next game, if we want the antidote he said and coughed violently.
The poison was beginning to effect him.

The two men walked around and Andrew went into the room with Theo's dead body.
On the back of Theo's neck was the number 12.

"Mr Boots, could you have a look and see if there is a number on my neck?" Andrew asked.

Mr Boots looked at him but did as he was asked.
"Yes the number 4, what do you think this is about?"

"I don't know, but Theo has a number on his neck as well" Andrew said.

Mr Boots checked "You're right! the safe! It must be the combination of the safe!"

Andrew looked over with hope in his eyes "We need to check Caz" he said.

Mr Boots ran back to the furnace, Andrew went to the safe.

He dialed in the combination using the lowest number first and then working his way to the highest.

4
8
12
15

The door opened and he took the antidote and injected himself.
He also took a key that was in the safe as well.

He then closed the door and spun the combination to reset it.

He walked out of the door and wandered into another room as Mr Boots came back.

Boots looked around and quickly realized what had happened.
"Andrew you cunning bastard" he said and was stabbed from behind by a sharp blade.

"Hello 'Boots' sorry about this" Andrew said with a smile and far more calm and confidence than he had shown from the start.

"Who... are you?" Mr Boots said as he died.

"Me?" Andrew said "I'm surprised you haven't figured it out, I'm the man who hired you all" he said.
"I hired Theo to begin his terror campaign, Caz to steal from a man who I knew would die from fright, and you to kill off those who wouldn't leave, I own the company that is building on the site, I admit I own it through a whole bunch of aliases and other businesses, but it is me who is getting rich from all this" he laughed "And I can't have you messing it all up for me, you know to much and are far to clever for your own good"

Boots died and Andrew went to find a way out.

He did find it as well, the key from the safe opened a locked door and lead to a room that had another tape player in it.
And an ominous bulky thing covered in a white cloth.

Andrew pressed play on the tape.

"Welcome to the exit room"
"Complete this game and the door will open, and you will be free"
"As an added bonus any who have not yet been saved from the poison will get a vial of antidote to cure themselves with"
"All you have to do is work together, all four lines must be drawn out and held taught to open the door"
"Do this for twenty seconds and the door will open and you will be free, fail and you will die here"
"Keep them in the right place however or you will be in trouble"
"Can you work together?"
"Can you work as a team and free yourselves?"
"Time to find out"
"Live or Die, make your choice!"

Andrew's face fell, he pulled the cover off the device and found four high tension cabled on pulleys.
The door to the room closed and locked tight, and there was no keyhole on this side, he was trapped in the room.
He needed to pull all four cables out tight to unlock the exit door.
He needed Caz, Theo and Mr Boots to complete this game.
And they were all dead.
If they had worked together they would have all lived.
If they had kept each other safe they would have all survived.

He pulled one cable out tight and tried to attach it to something.
A light above the door turned green to show it was at the right place to unlock the door.
He tried to hook it onto the wall, the light turned red and four boxes opened, one in each corner.

The boxes had bombs in them.
A voice far to familiar sounded.
"To far I'm afraid, you have activated the bombs"
"All four must be kept in the right place"
"Now the bombs are active and you have thirty seconds to escape"
"Play on"

Andrew screamed out.
"Fuck it! this isn't fair!"

He grabbed the other cables and pulled as hard as he could.
But he was not strong enough to pull them out far enough.
All four were pulling back and he couldn't get them even half way to the unlock point.

The clock ticked down.
He looked at one of the timer on the bomb as it ended.

BOOM!

Tapp sat in his office; it had been a week since Sing had died.
His injury had been stitched up and was already scarring over.
His voice was more horse and gruff than before due to the injury.
He stared at an empty seat on the opposite side of the desk.

His teeth gritted, his fury rose in his chest like a volcano waiting to explode.
"I'll get this bastard partner, I promise, I'll get him and I'll kill him!"

Three days later

Tapp sat in a dingy little apartment watching a derelict house, his instincts screamed this was the place; this was where he would find Jigsaw.

All he had to do now was wait for the chance to kill the man who murdered his partner.
"This is for your wife and kid buddy" he said to a photo of Detective Sing "This is for them; they need to know this guy is dead for what he did as much as I do"

He waited, but nothing moved in that house.

As his eyes felt heavy he slapped himself to stay awake.
A knock at his door made him jump from his seat.
He ran to the door and opened it.
There was no-one outside.
But on the floor was a video tape.

He picked it up and walked to the T.V and VCR in the dingy room.
He put in the tape and pressed play.
A puppet appeared on the screen, the same creepy puppet he had sen so many times before.

"Good evening Detective Tapp"
"I want to play a game!"
